This drill lets the hitter focus on his top hand’s path to the ball. You can concentrate on making contact with your palm up instead of rolling over with your wrists. Here are the benefits…

This Drill Helps With

  • Instantly see how your top hand is acting during your swing
  • Find out if your wrists are rolling over before your swing

How To Perform This Drill

  1. Get into a normal stance
  2. The Load: perform your load but bring your front leg up and come to a pause.
  3. Come to a pause and get balanced. (this is key)
  4. Load your hands up and back into your Load Position
  5. In 1 fluid motion, trigger your hands…completing your load…and swing.

Focus on driving your weight forward into a “firm front side” (straightened front leg)…if you fail to create a firm front side…you will find yourself lunging and falling forward, off-balance.

How Not To Perform This Drill

  1. Lunging or Hitting with a bent front knee
  2. Forget to come to a Pause
  3. Leaning too far forward after the swing

This is a great drill for:

  • Hitters who have too much weight behind them (on their back leg)
  • Hitters who lunge out in front of the plate after their swing
  • Hitter’s who want to add a leg-kick into their swing but are struggle to control their weight

If you don’t have access to a hitting tee or cage, do this drill with just a bat and a mirror if you have one. Keep an eye on yourself as you finish you swing to check for a straight front leg.

Watch For

Leaning too far forward after the swing + Lunging or Hitting with a bent front knee.
